About Bucharest
Bucharest, often named "Little Paris" due to its architecture but also to the rich cultural, social and economical life, is one of the most beautiful European capitals. The city becomes the capital of Romania in 1862. Bucharest is surrounded by parks and gardens, lakes and forests.

One can find many points of interest when visiting our city. For example much of Bucharest's past can be seen along Calea Victoriei and Piata Victoriei and all the streets leading from them. We recommend when visiting Calea Victoriei that one should see The National Museum of History, The Romanian Athenaeum, George Enescu Palace, The Museum of Art Collections and The Royal Palace known also as The National Art Museum.

The Romanian Athenaeum The Romanian Athenaeum was founded in the 28th of January, 1965, for promoting and propagating culture. The architects of the Athenaeum are Albert Galleron (France) si C. Baicoianu. The building was inaugurated in February, 1888.

The National Art Museum is being located in the old building of the Royal Palace. After 10 years from the reconstruction made by the Revolution in 1989, the museum includes paintings from great masters: Rembrandt, Veneziano, Monet, Sisley, El Greco, Breughel si Rubens. During the revolution, 448 paintings were destroyed.

The Village Museum The Parliament Palace is the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon. It was built in the years 1984 – 1989. It has hundreds of offices, conferences halls and reception rooms for different events. If you want to see real Romanian art and tradition, then the Village Museum is the perfect place. Located near the Lake Herastrau, is the first open-air ethnographic museum in the world.

The Arch of Triumph The Arch of Triumph was inaugurated at the 1st of December 1936. It is a monument dedicated to the Romanian soldiers, that fought in the First World War. It was designed by Petre Antonescu and it has 27 meters.

Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue) is Bucharest's oldest street. It was built in 1692 and it was paved with oak beams. The street took its name after the Romanian War of Independence victory. When walking on Calea Victoriei you can see some of the most impressive buildings in the city: Cantacuzino Palace, the historical Revolution Square, the Military Club, the CEC Headquarters and the National History Museum.

Manuc's Inn
The Inn was built between 1804 and 1808, by an Armenian trader called Manuc Bey and it witnessed a very important moment in history: the preliminary talks of the Peace Treaty that put an end to the Russian -Turkish War that lasted from 1806 until 1812. These days, the Inn serves as a hotel, a restaurant and a wine cellar.

The Opera House
This building was built in the 1953 and it was designed by a great architect named Octav Doicescu. It has a capacity of 2200 places. At the top floor you can visit The Opera's Museum, where you find documents, photographs, costumes that shows the artistic development of this gender in our country. In front of the building, you can find the statue of George Enescu, one of the greatest Romanian musicians. He was also a composer, violinist, pianist and conductor.

Revolution Square
The square got its name after the Revolution from December, 1989, when Nicolae Ceausescu, the former Communist Party Leader and president of Romania, made his final speech before the crowed turned on him. The building now belongs to the Senate.

The Controceni Palace is the residence of the Romania's president. It was built between 1893 – 1895 and it was designed by the French architect Paul Gottereau. The Controceni Palace houses a rich collection of medieval art.

The Military Club
The Cismigiu GardensThe building was built in 1912. It has sumptuous rooms, that hosted balls, reunions and today, is hosts painting exhibition, sculpture, books launchings.

If you want to get away from the crowded streets and the noise, you can visit the Cismigiu Gardens (1860), an old and historical park located downtown or Herastrau Park, located just a couple of metro stops from the city center.
